LOOT HOOPS SD

The concept for this show—the first-ever Loot Hoops show— began back in 2021, when I first sold a hoop to Robert, the owner of SH!FT Gallery, for the original North Park location of Connect. Later that year, he bought a second hoop when he opened in OB. Cut to this summer, Robert invited Loot Hoops to take over his third space, SH!FT.

These Loot Hoops were handmade in 150 hours across ten days on site here in this room and are shown alongside Robert’s original two hoops. There is roughly 1800 feet of chain in this collection, which came to life with huge help from Francesca, my sisters and Robert, who collaborated in making some of the hoops and backboards you see.

Loot Hoops are handmade from new and vintage materials, and live somewhere between chandeliers and the weathered, torn hoops of public courts.

1. Mela - Something new and a little different - loosely inspired by tennis nets. Golden chain with black stones on a lightweight pearl-trimmed rim.

2. French Cyanotype- Collaboration with my sister and filmmaker, Evelyn Byrd, who used shattered ceramics, glass and lace to create a cyanotype on fabric. Paired with lightweight chrome rim with sparkling silver-plated chain and vintage prisms. $1700
